Most of Colorado’s population resides along the eastern edge of the Rocky Mountains in the Front Range Urban Corridor between Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Pueblo, Colorado. This region is partially protected from prevailing storms that blow in from the Pacific Ocean region by the high Rockies in the middle of Colorado. The only other significant population centers are at Grand Junction and Durango in far western Colorado.

To the west of Great Plains of Colorado rises the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains. Notable peaks of the Rocky Mountains include Longs Peak, Mount Evans, Pikes Peak, and the Spanish Peaks near Walsenburg, Colorado, in southern Colorado. This area drains to the east and the southeast, ultimately either via the Mississippi River or the Rio Grande into the Gulf of Mexico.

The Continental Divide extends along the crest of the Rocky Mountains. The area of Colorado the west of the Continental Divide is called the Western Slope of Colorado. Drainage water west of the Continental Divide flows to the southwest via the Green River and the Colorado River into the Gulf of California.

Within the interior of the Rocky Mountains are several large so-called “parks” or high broad basins. In the north, on the east side of the Continental Divide is the North Park of Colorado. The North Park is drained by the North Platte River, which flows north into Wyoming and Nebraska. Just to the south of North Park, but on the western side of the Continental Divide, is the Middle Park of Colorado, which is drained by the Colorado River. The South Park of Colorado is the region of the headwaters of the South Platte River.

In southmost Colorado is the large San Luis Valley, where the headwaters of the Rio Grande are located. The Rio Grande drains due south into New Mexico, Mexico, and Texas. Across the Sangre de Cristo Range to the east of the San Luis Valley lies the Wet Mountain Valley. These basins, particularly the San Luis Valley, lie along the Rio Grande Rift, a major geological formation of the Rocky Mountains, and its branches.

LASIK Eye Surgery

Every surgery has it’s pros and cons and every patient should weigh these carefully before undergoing LASIK eye surgery. The question remains, will you find that the pros outweigh the cons?

Pro: Well this one is easy – no more glasses or contacts after LASIK eye surgery! Glasses are a pain to deal with and caring for contacts is a hassle. Without having to deal with these eyesight improvement methods, you can lead a more carefree lifestyle. Whether you want to play sports, join the military, or even just improve your appearance by discarding your glasses and LASIK will definitely improve your vision.

Con: Most insurance companies do not cover LASIK surgery. Though financing is sometimes possible, it is not guaranteed and interest rates can be exorbitant.

Pro: You won’t have to pay for maintenance of contacts and glasses anymore or for yearly exams and replacing glasses. If you add these costs up over the long run, it far exceeds the initial cost of LASIK.

Cons: Smaller yearly costs may be more feasible for you than one large sum for the LASIK eye surgery.

Pro: While all surgeries have risks, LASIK eye surgery has one of the lower rates of complications. It rages from three to five percent and most of the complications associated with the surgery can be treated with one additional LASIK eye surgery. Recovery time is also minimal and successful surgeries only require one or two days of downtime.

Con: Complications are still off-putting and some people are unwilling to overlook those risks. It is always best to ask about any other questions you have. Most people who have LASIK surgery find that the benefits are more important than any potential risks. Your quality of life may improve significantly post LASIK eye surgery, but it is a decision that must be made by you and your doctor. If you  are considering laser vision correction, you should talk to the friendly professionals.

Cataract in Human Eye
Image via Wikipedia

A cataract is the clouding of the internal lens of the eye called the crystalline lens. It affects vision because it blocks the passage of light into the eye.

This is how a cataract surgery is done. Cataract surgery is a harmless procedure. Every year, there are more than 1.6 Americans who undergo this treatment to repair their vision. By the age of 80 years old, more than half of the American population have cataracts or have had cataract surgery. Some people believe that when one eye has cataract, the other eye will definitely be next. This is a myth. Cataracts don’t spread but they typically do affect both eyes through the natural aging process.

Before a cataract surgery, a patient will go through a complete eye examination to determine the correct power of the intraocular lens that the eye needs. Cataract Surgeons in New Jersey has developed the most widely used software for determining the power of the lens to be placed inside the eye once the cloudy natural lens has been removed. Cataract Surgeons in New Jersey has brought the level of accuracy in this determination to the highest level in the history of cataract surgery.

It is important for the patient to mention all medications he or she is currently taking. The eye surgeon will need to discuss these medications with you and any possible affects they may have on your cataract surgery. Some medications, such as Flomax, cause problems during a cataract surgery. The patient is then given an option on what to choose over single vision intraocular lens or presbyopia-correcting intraocular lens. The patient’s choice is usually dependent on some factors such as his lifestyle and ability to pay the total cost. Cataract Surgeons in New Jersey developed will most often be used in calculating the best possible lens for each cataract patient.

On the day of the surgery itself, there is a list of things to do, including not eating breakfast or drinking liquids. Eye drops are used to dilate pupils and sedative may be given prior to cataract surgery. Topical anesthesia is also given in order for the patient not to feel any pain. After the areas around the eyes were completely cleansed and after a sterile covering is put into place, a tiny incision is made in the eye to enable the surgeon to remove the cloudy lens. There are two methods to remove the cloudy lens. Once the lens is removed, a tiny intraocular lens will replace the natural lens that was taken off the eye.

After the operation, a protective shield is placed on the eye. Then the patient is usually sent home after few minutes in the recovery room. Surgeons advise patients to apply eye drops for a number of times in a day. This goes on for few weeks depending on the surgeon’s advice. Just like any other medical procedure, there are dos and don’ts patients are given to ensure effectiveness of the operation.

Contact lenses, other than the cosmetic variet...
Image via Wikipedia

Because of LASIK eye surgery, you no longer have to remain confined within the limitations thrown by glasses or contact lenses. The LASIK eye surgery procedure is as easy to do as any eye examination.  Your LASIK doctor will determine whether LASIK will be beneficial to you.  For those of us who deal with the ramifications of less than perfect vision on a daily basis, our routines can center on maintaining glasses that get in our way or contact lenses that dry our eyes, and may easily go missing at the most inopportune moments. When you add the expense of  glasses or contacts, it can be expensive. Many people have come to discover corrective laser eye surgery as a procedure that takes less than an hour and costs considerably less than a lifetime of vision correction prescriptions.

Being well informed about your surgeon and their experience and education will benefit you and could help to prevent an untrained surgeon from operating on your eyes. There are financing companies which specialize in elective procedures offering plans with long-term payments and fixed rates. Procedure fees also include expenses such as operation equipments, surgical staff fees and postoperative and preoperative care.
